September 10, 2015 | When we announced our pregnancy, there was this “secret” place a bit of a drive away that I knew would be the perfect spot for photos. Rolling fields of sunflowers as far as the eye could see…it is magical. Last year E was too little to take out there, but I promised myself we would bring her in 2015. Now that spot is literally all over social media, and for 1.5-2 weeks FB is nothing but images of people driving out to see the flowers at their peak. Last week I had plans to photograph a client out there, so why not add my own family on top of that? It was sunny and hot, we all had our cars packed with in-case-of-mud necessities, and changes of clothes. I was a sweaty wreck, but the images are pretty darn fun. I love them. After the quick-session was complete, J had the idea we should all drive to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings. The caravan made it half-way there, when we had a call from my sister that she was wary of the coming storm so they would bail. The remaining 2 cars decided we were less than 10 minutes away now, so let’s just go. The town was busy with college students, so sitting outside at Sonic won our business…totally lame, but oh well. Dinner complete, we hit the road. That’s when rain…and wind…and hail all decide to come to our party. Enough that we had to pull off the highway and hide our cars under a bridge (along with 15 other drivers) and wait until there was some degree of visibility again. CRAZY TOWN. But…the pictures!! 🙂
September 5, 2015 | Labor Day is traditionally spent at the lake, and this year there was a stand-up paddle-board waiting for me to get on! For my birthday (and other holidays) Dave gifted me a beautiful and fun SUP. We had it shipped directly to the lake because it’s 11’6″…and who can haul that easily on a 2-hour car trip? Since we arrived at 3:45 PM Friday afternoon, E’s nap was complete and we could make our way down to the berm to try it out. First we put it together at the house, and E practiced some yoga to make sure it was ready to go…
Grandma taught E how to throw rocks into the lake, and we actually spent a good deal of time at the water. E loves the water, but isn’t too keen on the life-jacket when someone is trying to hold her. She even tried to jump off the paddle-board when she was sitting on it in the water. BY HERSELF. No fear from this child. Well…almost.
Saturday morning D wanted to get the 4-wheelers started, and said we could take-turns riding while the other sat with E at the blue shed. We brought along pull-puppy, and it took about .3 seconds before he was covered in spider webs from being drug through that shed. Blech…& E couldn’t care less! But as soon as those machines were started-up, FEAR. Uncle B and cousin S met-up with D and did a little guys-ride together while E and I hung out trying to calm her nerves. Poor kid! Someday I think she’ll love them.
And E finally has her own family-tie-dye shirt…made by her cousin J in the photo below! It was so sweet of her to think of E, and bring it along when she arrived Saturday night! Grandma was wearing hers, so we had to get a photo of all three as well. Then 5 of the six siblings happen to be in one room, so a photo was NECESSARY!
MOST of the family arrived Saturday afternoon/evening, and we were leaving at E’s bedtime that night. But it was good to see everyone even if it wasn’t as long as we’d like. Such a great crew, tons of food, and D & I got to wake-board for the first time since before I was pregnant! Let’s not talk about how sore we both are still (despite the run being super-short)… 🙂
August 29, 2015 | After the zoo-adventure, we drove around town so E could rally for our next event, C’s 1st Birthday Party! It was an adorable ice-cream-sundae theme, with pink and gold details. Laura is impeccable with details & style, and I brought my camera along so I could return the favor from E’s party (Eric captured our treasured-images for us). Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, ice cream and cupcakes. What more do kids need? I love seeing all our friends go through this world of parenthood with us. It changes your world so much, in ways you never expect, and it’s awesome. I’m so happy for this family, and know they loved this first year with Miss C!
August 29, 2015 | We finally scheduled a Saturday morning trip to the Zoo! Thanks to Aunt Abbey we had a free family pass (a gift for E’s birthday) and it was so…much…fun. The weather was actually a little bit cool, and while there were some crowds in places it wasn’t terrible at all. I was shocked how much E stayed in her stroller, and by how tired D and I were by the end. It’s a LOT of walking/pushing to get all around that place, and we didn’t even see the whole place! E also loved the statues, just about as much as the real animals. We had tons of practice with ‘What does the <insert animal here> say?’ and she knows most of them. Early on it became apparent that we had to say GOODBYE to all of the animals before we walked away. If not, there were water-works. Hot dogs, snacks, a carousel. Note: you CAN bring your own food inside. So next time we go, we will not be reliant on the vendors for lunch. For some reason E thinks the Virb is a phone? Leaving the Zoo she had it up to her ear saying “Hello?” over and over. No clue why!
August 26, 2015 | So, are all of these days an actual “thing” that is for real? I’m not so sure, but sometimes it prompts me to take a few more photos with the camera (vs. the iPhone 5S). These two have a funny relationship for sure. She loves him, he avoids her as much as possible. But she still throws the toys for him, so here’s hoping he comes around soon.
August 23, 2015 | Our amazing OB surprises you post-delivery with this baby-shirt…and at the time you hold it up in the air and cannot fathom your tiny baby fitting into it. So it gets thrown in the back of a drawer, not to be found until your purging a ton of too-small pieces! I had promised my Dr. that I would send him some photos of E in it, seeing as I’m a photographer and all. Better late than never on that promise? Dang I love this little girl…
