September 29, 2016 | I’ve managed to keep a lot of princess-stuff away from the house…which is great. But I did let her see a little bit of Beauty & the Beast and Little Mermaid, and I can tell she really loves it. Now that she’s getting older, and can actually articulate what she enjoys, I’m trying to be more relaxed about it all. Dare I say, even feel a tiny bit bad for trying to avoid it so much? But there’s definitely a connection with Belle. So for Halloween there are all sorts of costumes at Walmart, and there was this insanely-yellow, glitter-covered dress for $12. I bought it…and had a big reveal for E at home. Her face, is just the best. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched this… 🙂 We wont discuss how much glitter it sheds.
September 24, 2016 | So many festivals, so little time… 🙂 It’s so cliche, but damn I love it all! This one had the promise of a parade, performers, music, farmers market, yummy food trucks and a puppet performance! I truly love watching E experience all of these different things for the first time. She dances in any space she wants, with no worries at all. I need to be a bit more like her…
September 21, 2016 | Finding new things to entertain E benefits both of us, and while we were packing away the camping gear from Winfield somehow a headlamp was forgotten on the step. E immediately found it on her way to the basement, so I had the idea to make it a game. Lights off, see what she can find in the dark — mostly things that I had “hidden” for her. I tried to capture this scene for 15-minutes or so with my cell phone, to no avail. FINALLY I ran upstairs into the garage, into my car, and grabbed my camera. Why on earth did I wait so long to do that?! I loved this image so much, that I ordered a canvas of it… 🙂
Now the SLR — this was the third shot from that camera…!
September 10, 2016 | I tend to make a LOT of plans when it comes to local activities, and this particular Saturday there was lots to see and do. Of course, I wanted to make it all happen! First, the day started like usual…pony playtime in undies… 🙂
First, a nearby city had a Spinach Festival that I wanted to check out. Mostly for the giant-meatball food-truck, but also because the day was gorgeous and I knew there would be a lot for E to do. Playgrounds being the easiest. With the late-start, lines for bounce-houses and face painting were out of control. BUT, Home Depot had these adorable wooden kits for kids of all ages to put together. For bigger kids you needed hammers, but for the littlest builders you just put the pieces together by hand…so I grabbed E a sailboat!
Once E was home and napping, I ran out to pick-up my Mom & Abbey for a women’s craft fair. My girlfriend Jen was selling her handmade pieces for the first time ever, so I really wanted to go and support her.
Someone woke-up from her nap VERY happy…which is a good thing because we got her dressed and ready for the annual carnival in our city. She was happy to show her cousin how AWESOME rides are, and how you hand your ticket to the person at the gate. E would be on rides all night if we let her! After some quick eats, we had to DRAG her out from under the bleachers to get her home. Finding a potty and getting close to bed time just meant we had to get going… 🙂
Exhausting…yes. But I wouldn’t change a thing! 🙂
September 8, 2016 | After quite a bit of rain, I saw a local park had all of these GIANT puddles in the parking lot while I was location-scouting…and made the call that I would be bringing E back that very same day when I picked her up from day care. SO glad that I did! Running and jumping as hard as she could into the water, then hiking over rocks (“don’t help me mommy”) to finding little wildflowers, AND popping-a-squat to pee in a big field in front of a team of kids having soccer practice. Classic…
