the Sad, Beautiful Images

March 23, 2017 | Another kinda sad post…because these photos held a lot of hope, promise, and happiness for me when they were taken. I even reached out to another photographer for the location, and I’ve never met her. But I wanted a special spot to create images that would announce our pregnancy to the world. The first attempt, I picked-up E from daycare ready with a dress, hair piggies, and a prop-stool. Yet the sun went behind the clouds so the result was fairly “flat” images that I didn’t love. Not to mention I only found 1 of the hair ties I packed, the dress was incredibly SHORT on this kid, and the wind kept exposing those undies!

Knowing that these blooms would only last a handful of days, I had to make plans to return quickly. THE NEXT DAY. This time I packed a different dress (her birthday party dress), better shoes, several hair ties, and our 12-week sonogram. The sun was out and it was just lovely. THIS was more what I had envisioned! Maybe not-so-much seeing her fall off the stool onto her head, popping a squat behind a tree to pee, knocking her in the head with my camera, or her running through the trees shouting “poo poo!!!”. But you know, taking it all in as part of the experience. She’s a blast.

And now the photos I have a hard time looking at, even still. Maybe I will forever? I didn’t tell her what they really were, because D and I decided to wait until I was really showing to tell her the news. It’s a blessing we did that, since it wasn’t meant to be, but I still kinda wish I could have heard her excitement at the sweet age of 3. I asked her what she thought the photos were, and she said “Raccoons!” I couldn’t make myself delete these images, so they will have a home here.

Snake Saturday Parade

March 18, 2017 | Bad weather moved the original date (3/11) to post-St. Patty’s Day, and I’m so glad it did. Sunshine is way better for a crew of kids! I packed toys, snacks, a blanket, frisbees, a ribbon wand, coloring books, Paw Patrol figures, and way too many other things. Seriously, the wagon was full. Then I made a fool of myself to get a group photo of NINE KIDS. E dancing to the dance-drum is a favorite… 🙂

Museum Members!

March 17, 2017 | St. Patty’s Day sure has changed…I remember day-drinking with friends downtown (D always refused to take the day off for this…humbug)! However this year, I traded my drinking shoes for DINO-ones. It was a perfect opportunity to join the nearest Museum to our house. When you’re a member you have free access to the Discovery Room which is amazing. The 45-min time slot you pick upon arrival is perfect (& they actually clean the space between sessions), and then you can visit the rotating exhibit as well. Our dino-loving girl was all in, and it was pretty hilarious to watch. Petrified-poo is a top choice from the rainbow drawers… We also visited the high-end toy shop for a bit, then ate lunch at Rock’N’Brews — a perfect spot for a toddler right? The other adults enjoying the basketball tournament (& day-drinking) had to think I was nuts… 🙂

Once D came home, we made our way over to the new neighborhood playground. Where yes, more dino-antics came into play. Not to mention the shirt from her bday (thanks Gma!). I wasn’t home to cook, but I also wanted corned beef and cabbage…so a quick dinner at this restaurant-attached-to-the-grocery-store was the answer. Oh suburban life…ha!

Light Testers

March 8, 2017 | When I get an idea for a new-to-me style of photography, most of the time D or E have to be my guinea pigs. Lucky them! I was attempting some colored-lighting (while keeping the front light a clean white) with flash-gels I had purchased, so I had a crude setup in the basement. These two walked in the door from daycare pickup and I called them downstairs right away. E had some crazy-hair and a messy face…but I left it all as-is. Then she asked me to take more photos of her in each of the colors I had to gel! When she’s requesting it, I simply have to oblige, right? I adore all of those expressions!

NICU Release Tradition

March 1, 2017 | Three years ago…how could that even be possible? March 1 snuck-up on me this year, obviously since I booked a free glow-yoga event with Cara for the evening. Once that class was over, I texted D and asked if I could bring home the yearly Shamrock Shake for all of us to share. You know, right before bed? But it’s tradition! He didn’t love the idea, but let me do it… 🙂 Crummy phone/night photos will have to do this time around!

February 27, 2017 | Is it possible that a newly-three child can feign sickness to get attention? Because I’m pretty sure E was doing just that. BUT, I also think this was the toughest cold she’s ever had. That face is so pathetic!!

Obviously this meant no daycare the next day, but don’t worry, she was much better and up for a picnic at the park.  Here’s 2/28, and getting a letter from her BFF was definitely a highlight! 😉
